As stated in my previous blogs, I am a big fan of goodreads. I explored Minti. Much better than getting weekly e-mails like parent press. can look for what you are interested in at the moment. Will explore some others when time permits. On to the survey and down to the wire.
week 9
•August 29, 2008 • Leave a CommentWell you can tell I am rushing to get this done. Just saved a lengthy post instead of publishing and I lost it. No, it’s not under drafts. The middle schoolers willl be here soon so I will abbreviate.
Looked at everthing. Found a learning french podcast with 116 or was it more lessons. Problem that I have with podcasting is that there is no visual. For instance, on the french lessons iI guess I’d rather see the text or at least the people interacting. Kind of boring to just listen and look at a blank screen. ditto for all the storytime podcasts. Can’t imagine my daughter ever sitting still to listen to one of them. OK, she is 18 but when she was little, it would never have worked.
Saw the vodcast “library” which was essentially showing bullying going on outside PHL. Guess that is the problem since you can’t control what is out there and you have to “self filter”. really didn’t enjoy the welcome on Podcast.com even though i did laugh when the woman fell over. Loved the zoombie vodcast but the sound quality, at least here at the library was poor. explored science fiction and fiction, food which led to food science which was interesting since it was a video. featured vodcast -” If you ever need blood”
Alyson Matthews has had me listen to a lot of our storytime Podcasts since she records most of them.
Future uses. We’ll see.
social networking
•August 14, 2008 • Leave a CommentM”marketing your adult programs” seems like a useful group to belong to. We have such a great success with our children’s programming but can’t seem experience the sam success with our adults. i didn’t join, but would like to join a storytime group.
FYI – I am now on facebook and am social networking away. I am hoping that the fascination with saving the rainforest, hatching eggs and good karma will diminish over time as I seem to be spending more time on facebook and good reads and less time actually reading. I also need more friends or I will certainly be bugging the heck out of the few that I have. Most of my friends are in NEWBIE mode thank goodness for Alyson!
- oh yeah and the dishes are still dirty. SIGH. What to do?
RSS
•August 12, 2008 • Leave a CommentThis weeks exercise definitely made me feel much more comfortable with rss feeds. Love being notified about new DVDs. YEAH! I usually search by year. Much better. My problem was that I was unable to get a validation e-mail sent to my Comcast account. Bummer. Once I switched to ccclib, it was fine.
problems with bloglines.com
•August 5, 2008 • Leave a CommentTrying to do my Web 2.0 homework for the week but can’t get them to send me a confirmation e-mail. Going to be hard to complete the assignement without it. Anyone else have this problem?
On the positive side, I am now a true web 2.0er. I have discovered goodreads and I love it! Bad news is that I am spending way too much time on it at home. (Wanted to make sure you knew I was doing this on my own time!) Only the dishes are suffering. Poor dishes. bad news is that so far I only have one friend (sniff), my cousin in Sweden.

google docs
•July 25, 2008 • Leave a CommentThanks to Tracy, DSL staff learned about googledocs awhile ago. Love it. Have had patrons save documents to it and have used it myself. Love the fact that I can access a document from any computer!
